US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that preparations are underway for President Donald Trump’s visit to India, which is expected to take place in the early part of next year. He also confirmed that the Trump administration is working closely with Indian counterparts as both nations move closer to finalizing a long-awaited bilateral trade agreement.
Rubio said he personally plans to visit India before the end of this year in order to help coordinate and set the groundwork for the presidential trip. He expressed optimism about the timeline, noting that discussions are actively focused on ensuring the visit takes place early next year if current progress continues.
Speaking on the state of India-US relations, Rubio described the partnership as being in a strong and positive phase. He pointed to recent high-level engagement between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 Summit, saying the meeting contributed to strengthening diplomatic momentum between the two countries.
He further emphasized that both sides are making steady progress in trade negotiations, suggesting that the agreement is now in its final stages. According to Rubio, only a small number of issues remain unresolved as officials work to conclude what he described as a highly positive and advanced negotiation process.
The US Secretary of State also highlighted broader strategic cooperation, particularly within the Quad framework involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. He said Washington is looking forward to another leaders’ meeting soon, reflecting continued coordination on regional and global issues.
Overall, Rubio’s remarks underline a period of increasing diplomatic activity between New Delhi and Washington. With trade discussions nearing completion and plans for high-level visits taking shape, both countries appear to be moving toward deeper economic and strategic alignment in the coming months.
