Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated on Thursday that India and the United States are increasingly becoming natural strategic and economic partners, supported by strong complementarities across sectors such as technology, defence, digital infrastructure, medical devices, and quantum computing.
Speaking at the Annual Leadership Summit hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi, Goyal said the growing relationship between the two nations is built on shared economic priorities, mutual confidence, and expanding investment opportunities. He emphasized that both countries possess economic strengths that work together rather than compete directly, creating significant opportunities for long-term collaboration.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the minister revealed that American companies have committed investments worth more than $60 billion in India over the past six months. These include major data centre projects led by global technology giants such as Amazon and Google, demonstrating increasing confidence in India’s rapidly expanding digital and industrial ecosystem.
Goyal said India offers a powerful combination of market scale, skilled professionals, supportive policies, and a robust digital infrastructure, making it an attractive destination for international investors. He also highlighted the country’s commitment to intellectual property protection and high-quality manufacturing standards for global businesses.
The minister noted that India’s massive consumer base of 1.4 billion people, coupled with rising disposable incomes and an expanding middle class, continues to create strong demand and opportunities for innovation-driven companies.
Discussing the government’s industrial strategy, Goyal announced plans to develop 100 modern industrial parks under the Bhavya initiative. These integrated hubs are expected to combine manufacturing facilities with housing, recreational areas, and social infrastructure to create more sustainable industrial ecosystems.
He further explained that flagship programs such as Make in India, Startup India, and Digital India have significantly accelerated innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology adoption across the country. According to Goyal, India is rapidly transitioning from a manufacturing assembly destination into a global hub for product design, innovation, and intellectual property development.
The minister also highlighted India’s growing importance in global business operations, stating that the country currently hosts more than 2,100 global capability centres employing over 2.3 million professionals and generating close to $98 billion in revenue.
Additionally, Goyal said India’s rapid expansion in renewable energy and nationwide 5G deployment are strengthening infrastructure readiness for advanced manufacturing, digital services, and data centre operations. He also praised the PM Gati Shakti initiative, describing it as a technology-driven infrastructure planning platform designed to improve logistics efficiency and accelerate development projects.
Looking ahead, Goyal reaffirmed India’s ambition to become a developed economy by 2047 through continued reforms, infrastructure expansion, and stronger international partnerships.
