External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during his official visit to the United States, held high-level talks with multiple top-ranking US officials to strengthen bilateral ties. The visit comes at the invitation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with engagements spanning security, energy, and international cooperation.
In a notable meeting with FBI Director Kash Patel in Washington DC, Jaishankar emphasized the growing collaboration between the two countries in tackling organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism. He expressed his appreciation for the deepening partnership via a post on X, stating, “Appreciate our strong cooperation in countering organized crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.”
Jaishankar also met Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, where the two had an in-depth exchange on current global dynamics and the expanding cooperation between India and the US.
Energy transformation was another key agenda item. Jaishankar met US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, where discussions focused on India’s clean energy transition and prospects for bolstering the India–US energy relationship. “We spoke about the energy transformation underway in India,” he posted, noting opportunities for stronger bilateral engagement in the energy sector.
In the realm of defense, Jaishankar held a strategic meeting with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The discussion revolved around enhancing defense cooperation, underscoring growing synergies in interests and capabilities. Jaishankar remarked that the meeting built on mutual responsibilities and shared regional concerns.
A major highlight of the visit was Jaishankar’s participation in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFMM). He called the discussions “productive” and said the dialogue focused on making the Quad mechanism more “focused and impactful” in tackling modern challenges and securing peace and openness in the Indo-Pacific region.
On the sidelines of the Quad meeting, Jaishankar had a one-on-one session with Secretary Marco Rubio. The two leaders reviewed the bilateral partnership, touching upon trade, mobility, energy, security, critical technologies, and infrastructure connectivity.
Throughout the visit, Jaishankar’s engagements reaffirmed India’s commitment to its partnership with the US and highlighted the nations’ shared vision for a stable, secure, and forward-looking Indo-Pacific and global order.
