Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel used his visit to Washington, DC, to showcase the state’s expanding economic opportunities and encourage the global Gujarati community to play a larger role in its development. On the fourth day of his US-Canada tour, Patel addressed members of the diaspora at an event hosted by the Vishv Umiya Foundation, presenting Gujarat as a major driver of India’s economic growth ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2027.
Patel outlined the state’s investment priorities and discussed opportunities emerging across sectors such as GIFT City, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centers, biotechnology, tourism, and hospitality. He said the delegation’s meetings in the United States were aimed at attracting fresh investment, encouraging new industries, and building partnerships in high-growth sectors. He also pointed to successful engagements in Silicon Valley as evidence of growing interest in Gujarat.
The chief minister emphasized that Gujarat’s appeal to investors extends beyond its economic performance. He highlighted the state’s infrastructure, administrative systems, financial discipline, and business-friendly policies as factors supporting long-term investment. According to Patel, the government has sought to combine economic expansion with improvements in essential services, including electricity, water supply, urban infrastructure, and employment.
A key part of his message focused on GIFT City, which Patel presented as an important destination for members of the global Gujarati community seeking investment opportunities. He said Gujaratis around the world have built substantial wealth through entrepreneurship and hard work, and channeling some of that capital into Gujarat could support the state’s development while creating potential benefits for investors.
Patel also highlighted Gujarat’s ambitions in emerging technologies. The state is seeking to strengthen its position in semiconductor manufacturing and data centers by leveraging existing infrastructure, government policies, industrial capabilities, and its financial ecosystem. He said these sectors could generate significant investment as well as new employment opportunities.
Beyond technology and finance, Patel pointed to tourism, hotels, and hospitality as additional areas with considerable potential. He argued that expanding industrial and commercial activity would increase demand across these sectors and contribute to local economic growth.
The chief minister ultimately called for stronger cooperation between the government, businesses, investors, and Gujaratis living overseas. He said international capital, technology, entrepreneurial expertise, and global experience could collectively help Gujarat accelerate its development and pursue new economic milestones.
