According to a recent report, IMEC is being viewed not just as a connectivity initiative but also as a strategic economic and national security hedge. The corridor could help India diversify its trade routes and reduce dependence on traditional maritime pathways.

Global trade routes currently face increasing risks due to geopolitical tensions, particularly in key chokepoints such as the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea region. These narrow passages are critical for global trade, handling significant volumes of oil and cargo, making disruptions highly impactful.

For India, the stakes are particularly high, as nearly 95% of its trade is conducted via sea routes. Any disruption in these chokepoints can lead to increased shipping costs, delays, and broader economic risks.

The IMEC corridor, first announced during the G20 Summit in 2023, aims to connect India with Europe through the Middle East using a multi-modal network of ports, railways, energy pipelines, and digital infrastructure.

Experts suggest that with strong political commitment and investment, IMEC could emerge as a viable alternative framework for trade and energy flows between India and Europe. The corridor is expected to enhance supply chain resilience, reduce logistics costs, and improve trade efficiency.

Additionally, IMEC could cut transit time and diversify supply chains, reducing reliance on traditional routes like the Suez Canal, which are prone to geopolitical and logistical disruptions.

However, challenges remain, including geopolitical instability in West Asia, funding requirements, and coordination among participating countries. Despite these hurdles, the corridor is seen as a long-term strategic initiative that could reshape global trade dynamics.

Overall, leveraging IMEC could help India strengthen its economic security, enhance global trade connectivity, and mitigate risks associated with critical chokepoints.

The post India Plans IMEC Route Amid Trade Risks first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Addressing the event on December 2, he said the initiative has “deepened the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” connecting the vibrant traditions of Tamil Nadu with the spiritual legacy of Kashi.

This year’s edition of the Sangamam, which will continue until December 15, builds on an idea first introduced in 2022 — reviving historical bonds between the Tamil-speaking region and India’s oldest living city, Varanasi. Modi noted that such efforts strengthen national unity by encouraging citizens to rediscover shared heritage and linguistic pride.

The theme of this year’s programme, “Let Us Learn Tamil,” underscores the government’s intent to promote Tamil language awareness across northern India. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the Sangamam serves as a bridge, bringing the cultures of North and South India “into one thread of unity.”

Over the years, the event has hosted students, scholars, spiritual leaders, artists, and cultural practitioners who trace the philosophical, religious, and linguistic connections between the two regions. The previous edition was rescheduled from December 2024 and later held in February 2025, reflecting the expanding scope and growing interest in the initiative.

The 2025 programme begins in Varanasi and will conclude in Rameswaram — symbolically linking two of the most sacred geographies in India. Officials say this north–south journey embodies the broader idea of a culturally integrated nation, where shared traditions continue to guide future aspirations.

By blending language, spirituality, and cultural exchange, the Kashi–Tamil Sangamam has emerged as an influential platform for nurturing India’s civilizational identity. Modi said the initiative not only celebrates the past but also shapes a future where India’s diverse cultural streams unite to strengthen its national character.

The post Kashi–Tamil Sangamam 4.0 Strengthens ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Speaking at the Economic Club of New York, Greer described India’s approach in the negotiations as pragmatic and constructive, emphasizing that both nations are seeking a mutually beneficial deal.

Greer addressed the recently discussed 25% tariffs imposed on India over its purchase of Russian oil. He stressed that the United States is not attempting to dictate policies to a sovereign nation, but rather encouraging alignment with broader international objectives. Greer noted that India has demonstrated an understanding of the US goal to end the conflict in Ukraine and is taking steps to diversify its energy sources accordingly.

The USTR also highlighted that India is not the only country purchasing Russian oil. Previous US administrations, including the Trump administration, had pressed European and Chinese counterparts to reduce such imports. This context underscores the broader geopolitical and economic considerations influencing the ongoing discussions.

These statements followed a high-level meeting between Greer and India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on September 22 in New York. The discussions aimed to address critical sticking points and explore pathways to a preliminary agreement. According to an official statement from India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the talks were constructive, with both sides engaging on multiple aspects of the potential trade deal.

Experts suggest that if successful, the agreement could enhance bilateral trade flows worth billions of dollars, support economic growth, and strengthen strategic ties. Both governments remain optimistic that an interim understanding can be reached in the near term, paving the way for more comprehensive negotiations in the months ahead.

The post US, India Progress Toward Significant Trade Agreement first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Developed at a cost of approximately $1.07 billion, the port is set to become a key hub for global cargo movement and a pivotal player in the country’s trade infrastructure.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other dignitaries joined the Prime Minister during the high-profile launch. Highlighting the project’s significance, PM Modi referred to the seaport as a “milestone for India’s maritime capability” and emphasized the transformative impact it will have on regional and national development.

“This port unlocks vast avenues for growth,” said PM Modi. “With its state-of-the-art transshipment capacity expected to triple soon, it will welcome large cargo vessels, meeting a long-standing logistical requirement.”

He noted that nearly 75% of India’s transshipment operations currently rely on foreign ports—a dependence that has led to massive revenue outflows. “This is changing now. The funds that once left India will now be invested in our own growth, benefiting local communities and boosting job creation,” he stated.

Reflecting on India’s rich maritime heritage, the Prime Minister recalled the nation’s economic prosperity during the pre-Independence era. “India was once a major global economic power, largely due to its flourishing port cities and maritime prowess—with Kerala playing a pivotal part in that era,” he stated.

PM Modi stressed that a thriving port economy hinges on two critical factors—infrastructure development and the simplification of trade practices. “For the past 10 years, we’ve aligned our maritime policies with this very principle. We’ve not only modernized ports but also encouraged ease of doing business across the board,” he added.

The Vizhinjam seaport marks India’s first dedicated container transshipment facility, aimed at drastically reducing reliance on foreign terminals. By enhancing logistics efficiency and reinforcing India’s standing in global trade networks, the port is expected to become a cornerstone of India’s long-term economic ambitions.

The post PM Modi Unveils $1.07 Billion Vizhinjam Port: India’s First Transshipment Hub first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Before moving on to broader cricketing opportunities, Aryaman spent five successful years with Surrey CCC, consistently ranking among the top wicket-takers in all age divisions. Last season, he transitioned to Kent’s 2nd XI side, featuring in matches against Zimbabwe A and Essex 2XI, where he showed promise with both tight economy and wicket-taking ability.

This year’s accolade not only recognises Aryaman’s technical skill and leadership but also his consistent rise through competitive youth cricket, both in England and internationally.

The post Aryaman Varma Named Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year 2025 first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

The meeting marked a key moment in advancing diplomatic relations and deepening strategic collaboration between India and the United States.

The two leaders acknowledged a remarkable headway in ongoing discussions regarding a potential bilateral trade agreement. Emphasizing shared prosperity, both Modi and Vance agreed that the deal would aim to deliver meaningful economic benefits to citizens in both nations.

Beyond trade, their dialogue covered a broader framework of collaboration, including growing cooperation in areas like energy, defense, and cutting-edge technologies. They also exchanged insights on regional and global developments, underscoring diplomacy and dialogue as essential tools for navigating complex challenges.

Recalling his earlier visit to Washington D.C. this year, Prime Minister Modi spoke of his productive meeting with former President Donald Trump. He said the encounter laid the groundwork for a stronger India-US alliance, bringing together Trump’s MAGA vision and Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 mission—both centered around national growth and transformation.

Modi also expressed his enthusiasm about President Trump’s upcoming visit to India later in the year, suggesting further steps toward reinforced collaboration on both economic and geopolitical fronts.

Vice President Vance, who was accompanied by a delegation of senior US officials, engaged in cultural experiences earlier in the day. The Vance family visited the iconic Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Delhi, where they were awed by its architectural brilliance and spiritual ambiance. “Our kids loved it. God bless,” Vance shared in a heartfelt post.

They also visited the Central Cottage Industries Emporium on Janpath, where they explored India’s rich heritage of handicrafts and traditional art.

The visit underscored not just diplomatic strength but also cultural appreciation, weaving together the threads of policy, progress, and people-to-people connection.

The post Modi, JD Vance Discuss Trade, Tech, and Ties first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

The investment was led by private equity and venture capital firm Stripes, reflecting growing confidence in Chapter’s client-first model. The start-up aims to assist seniors in selecting Medicare health plans based on their preferred doctors, hospitals, and prescription drug coverage.

Unlike traditional Medicare insurance brokers, Chapter prioritizes the needs of its users over insurer profits, a strategy that has helped it stand out in a competitive field. This consumer-centric approach has been a major draw for investors and policymakers alike.

The company’s leadership also reflects a bipartisan blend, featuring figures from both Republican and Democratic backgrounds.

Chapter’s earlier Series A funding in 2020 was led by Naraya, a venture capital firm established by Vice President JD Vance. Peter Thiel, another early backer, later took Vance’s board seat after his Senate run but has since stepped down.

In a noteworthy shift, former Democratic Congresswoman and Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala has joined the board, replacing Thiel. Speaking to Bloomberg, Shalala noted that Chapter’s bipartisan funding and leadership didn’t pose a concern, adding, “I don’t think of the company as political.”

Chapter continues to draw a wide range of investors and board members, all while staying committed to offering seniors clear, user-focused guidance on Medicare.

The post Chapter Secures $75M, Soars to $1.5B Valuation first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
