BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha joined communities across the United States in commemorating America250, the nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Through a series of events focused on faith, volunteerism, civic pride, and community engagement, the Hindu organization highlighted the role of South Asian Americans in shaping the country’s social and cultural landscape.
Partnering with America250.org, the official nonpartisan initiative coordinating the national commemoration, BAPS participated in programs designed to encourage Americans from diverse backgrounds to reflect on the nation’s history, values, and shared future. The celebrations emphasized gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities that have enabled immigrant communities to preserve their traditions while contributing to American society.
For many South Asian American families, the anniversary represented an opportunity to recognize generations of contributions in fields such as healthcare, education, business, technology, public service, and the arts. BAPS noted that the community’s journey reflects the broader American experience, built on resilience, opportunity, service, and a strong sense of belonging.
With more than five decades of service in the United States, BAPS organized celebrations at its mandirs nationwide. Activities included open houses, interfaith gatherings, volunteer initiatives, patriotic ceremonies, and family-centered events that welcomed people of all faiths and backgrounds. Temples were decorated in red, white, and blue as communities came together to celebrate the nation’s milestone anniversary.
At BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, thousands gathered for a flag-hoisting ceremony alongside military veterans and local residents. Similar events took place at the BAPS Mandir in Los Angeles, where veterans participated in a flag-raising ceremony and visitors explored the temple’s cultural and community programs. In Houston, local elected officials joined celebrations featuring patriotic displays and the singing of the national anthem.
Many of the programs also focused on religious freedom, cultural diversity, and volunteer service. Through interfaith discussions and outreach activities, participants reflected on how America’s founding principles have allowed people from different backgrounds to practice their faith while making meaningful contributions to their communities.
A special highlight of the celebration was a message from His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, who offered prayers for the nation on its historic anniversary. His message encouraged devotees to express gratitude for the opportunities available in the United States while embracing the responsibility to serve society with compassion and integrity.
BAPS Charities further incorporated America250 into its annual Walk-Run events across North America, supporting numerous charitable organizations dedicated to healthcare, education, environmental protection, humanitarian relief, and community development. Through these nationwide initiatives, BAPS reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening communities, promoting unity, and encouraging service as America celebrates 250 years of history.
