Citigroup’s CEO Jane Fraser highlighted Viswas Raghavan’s extensive banking experience, citing him as the ideal choice to lead the Cluster and Banking Heads within Citi’s global network. Raghavan, an Indian American executive formerly with JP Morgan, has been appointed as Citigroup’s new head of banking and executive vice chair. He will report directly to CEO Jane Fraser and is expected to assume his new role in the summer.
Bringing a wealth of expertise in investment, corporate, and commercial banking, Raghavan will oversee one of Citi’s five primary business divisions. Fraser underscored Raghavan’s role in supporting strategic initiatives and driving Citi’s company-wide strategy, emphasizing his appointment as a testament to the firm’s ability to attract top talent.
Raghavan’s background at JP Morgan includes serving as co-head of global investment and corporate banking since 2020, with his most recent position being head of global investment banking. Over his tenure at JP Morgan since 2000, he held significant roles in worldwide debt and equity capital markets, eventually being appointed head of treasury services, corporate banking, and EMEA investment in 2012.
Born and raised in India, Raghavan holds a BSc in Physics from Mumbai University and an honorary doctorate in electronic engineering and computer science from Aston University (Birmingham, UK). Additionally, he is a chartered accountant serving the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Fraser expressed confidence in Raghavan’s ability to lead Citigroup’s Banking franchise, particularly amidst structural changes aimed at operating more efficiently and maintaining strong client momentum. Raghavan will collaborate closely with David Livingstone and the Vice Chairs in the Client organization to ensure consistent and disciplined client strategy delivery.
