Intel has elevated Sachin Katti, a pioneer in AI and networking technologies, to the role of Chief Technology Officer and head of Artificial Intelligence, according to a Reuters report citing an internal company memo. The announcement comes as newly appointed CEO Lip-Bu Tan works to streamline Intel’s leadership framework.
Katti, who hails from Belagavi, India, currently lives in the US with his wife Seema and their two children. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in 2003, and later earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Raised in a family of doctors, his passion for science and technology took root early, especially after being motivated by a school principal to aim for the IITs in sixth grade.
Before joining Intel, Katti founded Uhana, a company that integrated real-time AI into mobile network systems. The startup was eventually acquired by VMware. At Intel, he previously held the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Network and Edge Group, where he led transformative projects in network infrastructure and intelligent edge computing.
In addition to Uhana, Katti co-founded Kumu Networks over a decade ago, where he and his graduate students demonstrated the viability of full-duplex radio systems. These radios, which can simultaneously transmit and receive on the same frequency, represented a global first in commercial applications and led to funding of $45 million.
His current research centers on ML-EXray, a platform designed to monitor and automate machine learning processes deployed at the network edge. The system enhances operational efficiency while offering thorough visibility into ML implementations.
Despite his global success, Katti remains connected to his roots and visits his hometown annually. According to his brother Amit, a practicing urologist, Katti is still fond of local dishes like rotti, jhunka, and misal pav, and maintains a love for cricket and football.
At the time of publication, Katti had not responded to media inquiries regarding his promotion.
