Members of the Indian diaspora in Paris expressed deep joy and emotional pride after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to France. The interaction was described as a memorable experience that reinforced their emotional and cultural connection with India while highlighting the growing strength of India-France relations.
Several members of the Indian community gathered to welcome the Prime Minister and later shared their experiences with IANS, describing the moment as both personal and historic. One individual noted that this was the third time they had met PM Modi since moving to France in 2023. They expressed pride in witnessing the expanding friendship between India and France, adding that each interaction with the Prime Minister felt increasingly meaningful and encouraging.
Another member of the diaspora, originally from Coimbatore and now operating a business in Paris, described the meeting as a significant honor. They emphasized that being able to meet the Prime Minister while living abroad strengthened their sense of identity and connection to India, while also reflecting the importance of India’s growing global presence.
A visitor in Paris shared that the Prime Minister’s presence deeply moved the Indian community in France. They noted that many Indians were emotional during the interaction, adding that PM Modi’s long tenure in office had contributed to India’s global rise and that many citizens admired his leadership and continuity in governance.
An Indian-origin scientist also described the meeting as an emotional moment, stating that it felt as though a family member had visited them abroad. The scientist highlighted the importance of increasing opportunities for Indian innovators and professionals through expanding cooperation between India and France, which is helping strengthen academic and research linkages.
A student living in Paris emphasized the practical benefits of the bilateral relationship, particularly the opportunities available to Indian students. They pointed out that Indian students in France benefit from a two-year post-study work permit, which significantly enhances their career prospects. The student expressed pride in representing India and meeting the Prime Minister during his visit.
The visit also included cultural participation from Indian heritage groups in France. Rahis Bharti, director of the Dhoad Gypsies of Rajasthan and associated musical ensembles, said it was an honor to take part in the welcome ceremony for PM Modi. Members of the troupe performed traditional and patriotic pieces, including “Ae Watan,” adding a cultural dimension to the event.
Prime Minister Modi, in a post on X after arriving in Paris following the G7 Summit in Evian, expressed appreciation for the Indian diaspora’s role in strengthening bilateral relations. He acknowledged their contribution in bringing India and France closer and reiterated the importance of the India-France partnership for global progress and shared prosperity.
