Aryaman Varma, an 18-year-old leg-spinner and captain of Eton College’s First XI, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year title. Aryaman delivered an outstanding performance in the 2024 season, claiming 51 wickets at an average slightly above 12 and contributing over 300 runs with the bat. His name now joins an elite list of past winners like Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler.
Originally born in London, Aryaman spent his early childhood in Mumbai, where he and his brother Aarav nurtured their love for cricket. Their family hails from Delhi, and his father, Munish Varma, is a former state-level badminton player.
Over the past three years, Aryaman has worked closely with the Delhi Capitals as a net bowler and received mentorship from Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav. He also played a part in the Dubai Capitals’ victorious ILT20 2025 campaign earlier this year.
Before moving on to broader cricketing opportunities, Aryaman spent five successful years with Surrey CCC, consistently ranking among the top wicket-takers in all age divisions. Last season, he transitioned to Kent’s 2nd XI side, featuring in matches against Zimbabwe A and Essex 2XI, where he showed promise with both tight economy and wicket-taking ability.
This year’s accolade not only recognises Aryaman’s technical skill and leadership but also his consistent rise through competitive youth cricket, both in England and internationally.
