The brutal terrorist attack in the scenic Baisaran Valley area of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians—most of them tourists—has sparked outrage and grief across the globe. Among the strongest voices condemning the assault were prominent Indian-American political figures who mourned the victims and emphasised the need for international unity against terrorism.
Vivek Ramaswamy, entrepreneur and Republican politician, was among the first to respond. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he called the incident a “horrific attack” and offered prayers for the victims and their families.
Senator JD Vance conveyed a heartfelt message, offering condolences to the victims and expressing how he and Usha have been deeply moved by the beauty of India and its people, keeping them in their thoughts during this challenging time.
Representative Ro Khanna of California’s 17th district condemned the violence, highlighting the loss of innocent lives in what he called a “beautiful sightseeing town.” He extended his support to the people of India and shared condolences for the families affected.
Congressman Ami Bera, a physician and representative from California’s 6th district, voiced his sorrow over the tragedy. He expressed deep concern over the terrorist attack, extending his thoughts to the victims and everyone affected by the tragic incident.
Raja Krishnamoorthi, representative from Illinois’s 8th district, denounced the attack as an act of senseless violence. He emphasized the need for unity in combating all forms of terrorism and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
