The United States and India have reinforced their strategic defence partnership following high-level discussions between senior air force leadership, with a strong focus on interoperability, joint training, and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
US Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach hosted Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh during an official visit on April 8. The Indian Air Chief was given a ceremonial honours reception at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling before engaging in a series of meetings with senior US defence officials, including Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink and Gen. Wilsbach at the Pentagon.
During the discussions, US Air Force leaders reiterated the importance of India as a key defence partner, describing the relationship as central to maintaining a “free, open, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.” They emphasized that deeper cooperation between the two air forces plays a critical role in regional deterrence and security architecture.
Gen. Wilsbach praised India’s participation in multinational military exercises alongside like-minded nations, noting that expanding such engagements would significantly enhance operational readiness and collective defence capabilities across the Indo-Pacific.
He further highlighted ongoing talks related to India’s procurement of MQ-9B Sky Guardian drones, stressing the US commitment to ensuring smooth integration and operational effectiveness of the platform once delivered to the Indian Armed Forces. The discussions also reflected broader US support for India’s air force modernization initiatives.
Both sides explored opportunities for increased collaboration in training and capability development, including programs under the National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership framework, advanced airlift tactics training, and full-spectrum unmanned aerial system operations.
Following the Pentagon meetings, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh also visited key US military installations, including Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado, where he received briefings on aerospace and maritime surveillance missions under the North American Aerospace Defense Command structure.
He later visited Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where he attended sessions at the US Air Force Warfare Center and participated in a familiarization flight aboard an F-15EX Eagle II, gaining firsthand exposure to advanced combat aviation systems.
According to Singh, such engagements are essential for strengthening operational coordination and building deeper interoperability between the two air forces, helping both nations enhance their shared strategic capabilities.
Overall, the visit underscored the growing convergence between India and the United States in defence cooperation, particularly in air power development, training exchange, and Indo-Pacific security priorities.
