PM Modi Embarks on Historic 5-Nation Tour to Strengthen Global Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday embarked on a five-nation international tour, beginning with Ghana, marking a significant diplomatic outreach across Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The visit aims to reinforce India’s strategic partnerships and deepen cooperation with the Global South and key multilateral organisations.
The tour includes official visits to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. In a departure statement, PM Modi highlighted the importance of these nations in India’s foreign policy, citing historical, cultural, and economic linkages.
In Ghana, PM Modi is expected to engage in high-level talks with President John Dramani Mahama and address the Parliament. He aims to enhance collaboration in sectors such as energy, investment, health, and security.
The Prime Minister will then travel to Trinidad & Tobago, celebrating over 180 years of ancestral ties with the Indian diaspora. He will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to rejuvenate historical bonds and explore cooperation in cultural and economic fields.
Next, PM Modi will head to Argentina, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 57 years. Describing Argentina as a key economic partner in Latin America and a G20 ally, Modi plans to meet President Javier Milei to discuss opportunities in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, and technology.
Following that, the Prime Minister will attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil, underlining India’s foundational role in the bloc. He will also conduct bilateral talks with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to advance joint priorities for the Global South.
The final leg of the tour will take PM Modi to Namibia, where he will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and address a Joint Session of Parliament. He described the visit as a step towards a new roadmap of cooperation, especially given both nations’ shared anti-colonial past.
This historic multi-nation tour is expected to deepen India’s engagement with the African Union, ECOWAS, CARICOM, and BRICS, strengthening India’s voice across multilateral platforms and reaffirming its leadership in championing the cause of developing nations.
