Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez in New Delhi on Thursday, holding extensive discussions aimed at advancing cooperation between the two nations. The leaders reviewed existing areas of collaboration while exploring fresh opportunities to strengthen their partnership across a range of sectors. Recent reports indicate that energy cooperation remains a major pillar of the relationship as India continues to expand engagement with Venezuela.
The meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other senior officials. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including energy, trade, investment, healthcare, and the automobile sector. Both sides expressed interest in identifying new avenues for cooperation that could deliver mutual economic and strategic benefits.
In addition to bilateral matters, Modi and Rodriguez exchanged views on key regional and international developments. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to working together on issues affecting developing nations and emphasized the importance of advancing the collective interests of the Global South. Their discussions reflected a shared vision of strengthening partnerships among emerging economies while promoting broader international cooperation.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar also met Rodriguez and praised her continued efforts to deepen relations between India and Venezuela. Following the meeting, he highlighted the value of her long-standing engagement with India and expressed confidence that her discussions with Modi would contribute to stronger bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
Rodriguez arrived in India on a five-day official visit designed to further enhance ties between the two countries. During her stay, a Venezuelan delegation is expected to visit facilities associated with India’s energy, pharmaceutical, and automotive industries. The visits are intended to provide insights into India’s industrial capabilities and identify potential areas for future collaboration.
India and Venezuela have traditionally maintained friendly relations, supported by cooperation in energy, trade, and investment. Indian public-sector companies have invested in Venezuela’s energy sector, and both governments are exploring opportunities to expand engagement further. Officials on both sides believe the visit will create momentum for deeper collaboration across multiple industries while reinforcing a partnership that continues to evolve with changing global economic priorities.
