An Indian parliamentary delegation on a knowledge exchange tour to Norway visited the country’s Parliament, the Storting, in Oslo as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral engagement and deepen cooperation between the two democracies.
During the visit, members of the delegation interacted with Norwegian parliamentarians and gained insights into Norway’s parliamentary system, legislative processes, and democratic traditions. The discussions focused on fostering stronger institutional ties and expanding opportunities for collaboration between lawmakers from both nations.
The Storting, established under Norway’s Constitution of 1814, serves as the country’s supreme unicameral legislature and consists of 169 elected representatives. The delegation’s visit provided an opportunity to study Norway’s governance framework and explore areas of mutual interest in public policy and democratic governance.
The delegation also met Eivind Vad Petersson, Norway’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Talks centered on enhancing India-Norway relations and identifying new avenues for cooperation across strategic sectors.
As part of the visit, the Indian lawmakers engaged with academic leaders at the University of Oslo, where discussions covered public policy, sustainability, research, and social sciences. The exchange highlighted the importance of knowledge-sharing and academic collaboration in addressing global challenges.
The delegation further met Oslo’s Vice Mayor for Environment and Transport, Marit Kristine Vea, to discuss climate priorities, sustainable urban mobility, and the role of political leadership in building future-ready cities. The conversations reflected growing interest in environmental sustainability and innovative urban development practices.
Members of the delegation also toured sustainability projects managed by the Oslo Municipality, examining initiatives related to waste management, environmental systems, and conservation efforts in the Oslofjord region. The visit offered valuable insights into Norway’s approach to environmental stewardship and sustainable governance.
The day concluded with a diplomatic engagement hosted by senior officials from Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Discussions emphasized the importance of international cooperation, democratic exchange, and stronger people-to-people and parliamentary connections.
The visit underscored the commitment of both India and Norway to expanding cooperation across governance, sustainability, education, and diplomacy while reinforcing the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
