The Consulate General of India in New York, in partnership with the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), organized a special meditation session aimed at promoting India’s ancient wellness traditions and strengthening cultural ties through yoga and mindfulness practices. The session was led by renowned yoga guru Dr HR Nagendra, an internationally respected expert in yoga, meditation, and holistic health.
The event brought together a diverse audience, including diplomats, academics, business professionals, representatives from yoga institutions, spiritual organizations, and members of the Indian American community. In his opening remarks, Consul General Binaya Pradhan expressed satisfaction that yoga continues to gain popularity across the United States. He noted that increasing participation in yoga centers and wellness programs reflects a growing global appreciation for India’s traditional health practices.
During the session, Dr HR Nagendra guided participants through meditation techniques and explained the importance of balancing body, mind, and breath. He emphasized that regular practice of yoga contributes to improved mental clarity, emotional stability, and overall well-being, making it a valuable tool for modern lifestyles.
Participants responded positively to the session, acknowledging the universal relevance of India’s ancient knowledge systems. Many reflected on how yoga and meditation continue to serve as bridges between cultures and promote a sense of shared human well-being.

He also pointed out that the recognition of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga was initiated at the United Nations through the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and is now observed in more than 190 countries.
Diplomatic representatives from several countries also attended the event, including the United Arab Emirates, Serbia, Nepal, Romania, and Malaysia. UAE Consul General Amna Almheiri emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening dialogue, wellness awareness, and people-to-people connections across nations.
