Sky Bird has reached a major milestone, celebrating five decades in the travel industry with a high-profile anniversary gala that brought together airline leaders, travel advisors, business partners, employees and other industry guests from throughout North America.
The airline consolidator was established in 1976 by Arvin Shah and his wife, Jaya Shah. Over the past 50 years, the company has developed its operations around relationships with airlines and providing services and resources designed to help travel advisors serve their customers.
The anniversary gathering reflected the breadth of those partnerships. Executives and representatives from major international and U.S. carriers, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, Air India, Lufthansa Group, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and American Airlines, attended the celebration, according to Sky Bird.
The company’s long-standing presence in Michigan was also recognized during the event. Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss and Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri presented two state honors acknowledging Sky Bird’s 50 years of operation and its contributions to the state.
Sky Bird Chairman Arvin Shah reflected on the company’s beginnings, saying its original goal was to establish a business built around trust, integrity, quality service and enduring professional relationships. He noted that these principles have remained central to the company as it has grown over the decades.
Looking toward the future, Sky Bird owner Akshay Shah said the company intends to strengthen its existing operations while pursuing new opportunities. Technology investment, broader airline relationships and continued support for travel advisors are expected to play important roles in the company’s next phase.
CEO Norman Knowles also used the occasion to recognize the people and organizations that have contributed to Sky Bird’s development. He emphasized that changing conditions across the travel sector have not altered the company’s focus on giving travel advisors access to useful products, technology, expertise and support.
As Sky Bird begins its next 50 years, the company plans to continue strengthening its airline network and upgrading its technology and services. Its anniversary celebration highlighted both its long history and its intention to remain closely connected to the evolving needs of travel professionals.
