India and Japan marked a major milestone in their technology partnership by holding their first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategic Dialogue in Mumbai on April 21, 2026. The dialogue brought together key stakeholders from government, industry, and research institutions, highlighting the growing importance of AI in bilateral relations.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation across the AI value chain, including innovation, industrial applications, and policy alignment. Both countries emphasized co-creation and collaboration to build a robust, trustworthy, and future-ready AI ecosystem.
A key area of focus was enhancing joint research initiatives and promoting talent mobility between the two nations. The dialogue also explored opportunities for collaboration in global AI governance, reflecting a shared commitment to shaping international standards in artificial intelligence.
This initiative builds on the India–Japan AI Cooperation framework announced earlier, positioning AI as a central pillar of the strategic partnership. By combining India’s strong digital talent base with Japan’s advanced technological expertise, both countries aim to unlock new opportunities in emerging technologies.
The dialogue is expected to serve as a long-term platform for continued engagement, fostering deeper collaboration in AI innovation, policy development, and global technology leadership.
