Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a series of high-level meetings with senior Chinese officials during his visit to China, focusing on strengthening bilateral engagement through academic cooperation, diplomatic dialogue and broader people-to-people exchanges. The discussions reflected ongoing efforts by both countries to improve communication and deepen collaboration across multiple areas of mutual interest.
On Tuesday, Misri met Li Wentang, Vice President of the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance) of the Communist Party of China. During the meeting, he was briefed on the institution’s historical background, academic initiatives and intellectual contributions. Both sides also explored opportunities to expand cooperation between academic institutions and promote future exchanges involving scholars and governance experts.
According to the Indian Embassy in China, the meeting emphasized the value of educational partnerships and knowledge-sharing as important components of the broader India-China relationship. Officials discussed ways to encourage future collaboration that could strengthen institutional ties between the two countries.
A day earlier, Misri met China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hua Chunying, in Beijing for comprehensive discussions covering the full scope of bilateral relations. The two sides reviewed progress in India-China engagement and considered ways to advance the understanding reached by the leaders of both nations, with a focus on building a constructive partnership.
Trade and economic cooperation featured prominently during the discussions, alongside cultural initiatives and efforts to increase people-to-people interactions. Both countries reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the border regions, recognizing that a stable border environment remains essential for the continued development of bilateral ties.
The Foreign Secretary also met Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Their talks centered on implementing the direction provided by the leadership of both countries while addressing issues of shared importance. They also discussed expanding cooperation through political engagement, academic collaboration and exchanges involving think tanks and civil society.
In another meeting, Misri held talks with Hong Liang, Deputy Secretary General of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The discussions focused on enhancing political dialogue and encouraging stronger people-to-people connections between India and China.
The series of meetings underscored continued diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Beijing. By prioritizing dialogue, academic collaboration, trade and cultural exchanges while maintaining peace along the border, both countries signaled their intention to pursue a more stable and cooperative relationship through sustained communication and mutually beneficial initiatives.
