India and Armenia have taken another step forward in strengthening their defence partnership following high-level discussions held in New Delhi. The Chief of Defence Staff of India, General Anil Chauhan, met Lt General Edvard Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of Armenia, to explore deeper cooperation in military development and strategic collaboration. The meeting highlighted both countries’ shared interest in expanding defence ties through innovation and joint ventures in the production of military equipment.
Upon his arrival, Lt General Asryan was formally welcomed and honored with a Guard of Honour, reflecting the importance India places on its growing defence relationship with Armenia. The discussions between the two military leaders focused on advancing collaborative opportunities in defence manufacturing, technology sharing, and strengthening long-term strategic alignment. Officials emphasized that the engagement reflects a steady and consistent rise in bilateral defence cooperation.
This latest meeting follows a series of exchanges between the two nations earlier this year. In February, a senior Indian defence delegation led by General Chauhan visited Armenia for several days. During that visit, the delegation met Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and senior officials to discuss evolving geopolitical conditions and opportunities for enhanced defence collaboration. Both sides agreed on the importance of adapting to emerging global security challenges through stronger partnerships.
The Indian delegation also engaged with Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan, exchanging views on regional and international security dynamics. In addition, discussions were held with Armenia’s Defence Minister Suren Papikyan, where both countries explored ways to deepen cooperation across multiple security and defence domains.
During his visit, General Chauhan also addressed students and faculty at Armenia’s National Defence Research University. He spoke about the rapidly changing global security environment, emphasizing the growing role of technology in modern warfare. He highlighted how advancements in cyber capabilities, electronic warfare, space-based systems, and cognitive domains are reshaping the nature of conflict. According to him, modern warfare is shifting toward multi-domain operations where technology plays a central role in determining strategic advantage.
Overall, the series of engagements underscores a strengthening defence partnership between India and Armenia, with both nations committed to building a future-oriented, technology-driven, and mutually beneficial strategic relationship.
