India and Iran have reaffirmed their diplomatic engagement through high-level discussions held in New Delhi, focusing on bilateral cooperation as well as key regional and international developments. The meeting took place between Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi.
The Iranian delegation also included Ambassador Mohammad Fathali, along with other senior officials. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussions covered a wide range of topics, including bilateral relations and the evolving geopolitical situation in the region. The talks also addressed recent developments affecting stability in West Asia.
Following the meeting, the MEA shared that both sides exchanged views on issues of mutual concern and emphasized continued dialogue between the two countries. The engagement reflects ongoing diplomatic communication between India and Iran during a period of heightened regional tensions.
In recent weeks, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has also been in contact with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi through multiple phone conversations. These discussions have taken place against the backdrop of increased tensions in West Asia following military strikes and rising instability in the region.
During their earlier interactions, both foreign ministers reviewed the broader security situation, including developments linked to ceasefire efforts and regional diplomacy. They also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining regular communication to manage evolving geopolitical challenges.
India has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for resolving conflicts in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also spoken with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in recent months, expressing concern over escalating tensions and civilian impact, while emphasizing the need to protect critical infrastructure and ensure secure maritime routes.
The latest meeting between Indian and Iranian officials continues this pattern of sustained diplomatic engagement, highlighting both countries’ interest in maintaining stable bilateral relations while addressing shared concerns related to regional peace and security.
