Four officers from the Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) of India have achieved remarkable success at the 43rd World Medical and Health Games in Saint-Tropez, France, held from June 16 to 23, 2024. Maj Anish George, Capt Stephen Sebastian, Lt Col Sanjeev Malik, and Capt Dania James collectively secured an unprecedented 32 medals, including 19 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
Lt Col Sanjeev Malik, in the above 35 years male category, secured five gold medals across events like 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, cross country, and 4x100m relay. Maj Anish George, competing in the under 35 years male category, demonstrated versatility with four gold, six silver, and two bronze medals in events ranging from sprints like 100m and 200m to field events such as javelin, shot put, and powerlifting.
Capt Stephen Sebastian shone with six gold medals in events including 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, hammer throw, and relay, all in the under 35 years male category. Capt Dania James made a significant impact in the under 35 years female category, securing four gold, three silver, and two bronze medals across events like 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, javelin, discus throw, shot put, badminton, and powerlifting.
These achievements have been celebrated by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of AFMS, who praised the officers for their outstanding performances. The World Medical and Health Games, often dubbed as the Olympic Games for health professionals, attract participants from over 50 countries annually, showcasing the highest levels of athletic and medical expertise.
