India Concerned Over Rising Extremism, Attacks on Minorities in Bangladesh
India has expressed deep concern over the escalating extremist rhetoric and violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) urged the interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus to ensure the safety and security of all minorities.
The MEA’s statement comes amidst growing tensions in Bangladesh, marked by the recent arrest and imprisonment of prominent Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari. Das, a spokesperson for the Sanatan Jagaran Jote, was detained on charges of sedition and is currently incarcerated.
The Bangladesh government has taken further actions against the Hindu community by freezing the bank accounts of 17 individuals associated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), including Das. This move has sparked widespread condemnation from Hindu organizations worldwide.
India has repeatedly highlighted the alarming rise in attacks on Hindu temples, homes, and businesses in Bangladesh. The MEA emphasized the need for the interim government to address these issues and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs.
“We are concerned about the surge in extremist rhetoric, increasing incidents of violence, and provocations,” stated an MEA spokesperson. “These developments cannot be dismissed as mere media exaggerations.”
India has urged Bangladesh to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das and ensure that due process is followed. The MEA also expressed its support for Iskcon, a globally recognized organization known for its social service initiatives.
Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also condemned the persecution of minorities and called for the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das. She highlighted the increasing incidents of violence against Hindus, as well as other religious minorities, across the country.
As the situation in Bangladesh continues to deteriorate, India remains vigilant and committed to advocating for the rights and safety of the Hindu community and all other minorities.
