India and Australia have taken another step forward in strengthening their defence relationship as senior leaders from both countries met in New Delhi for the second India-Australia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue. The meeting was jointly led by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles, with officials from both sides participating in discussions aimed at expanding strategic cooperation.
The talks focused on reviewing the full scope of bilateral defence ties and identifying new areas where collaboration can be deepened. Both countries emphasized the importance of converting their shared strategic trust into practical outcomes that enhance defence capabilities and regional security cooperation.
Following the meeting, Rajnath Singh highlighted on social media that the discussions were productive and covered a wide range of defence-related issues. He expressed confidence that the India-Australia defence partnership would continue to grow steadily in the coming years, reflecting the increasing alignment between the two nations.
Richard Marles also underscored the significance of the dialogue, stating that both sides are committed to transforming strong strategic understanding into real operational cooperation. He noted that peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region depend on close collaboration among partner nations, and he thanked India for hosting the discussions.
The Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, welcomed Marles’ visit and described it as a reflection of the growing momentum and depth of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He highlighted the enduring friendship between the two countries and the expanding scope of their cooperation across defence and strategic sectors.
According to India’s Ministry of Defence, the dialogue follows the first edition held in Australia in October 2025. The ministry noted that this ongoing engagement reflects the increasing maturity of bilateral defence ties and the shared commitment to a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region. Australia has been identified as a key partner in India’s broader vision for a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific.
The latest discussions reaffirmed both countries’ intention to deepen defence cooperation through sustained engagement, regular dialogues, and expanded collaboration in strategic areas.
