ndia and Cambodia have taken steps to further strengthen their bilateral relationship through discussions focused on trade, investment, and long-term development cooperation. The meeting took place in New Delhi, where senior officials from both countries explored opportunities to expand collaboration across multiple sectors.
Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, P Kumaran, met a Cambodian delegation led by Secretary of State KHY Sovanratana. During the interaction, both sides reviewed India’s ongoing capacity-building initiatives for Cambodia, including training programs for Cambodian diplomats at India’s foreign service institute. These initiatives reflect India’s broader commitment to supporting institutional development and skill-building in partner nations.
The discussions also covered ways to enhance cooperation in trade and investments, along with joint efforts in heritage conservation and development partnerships. Both countries acknowledged the importance of strengthening economic ties while preserving cultural and historical assets through collaborative projects.
In addition to economic and developmental cooperation, India and Cambodia have been actively deepening their defense engagement. Recent high-level military interactions held in Phnom Penh highlighted the shared commitment to expanding defense ties. During these engagements, senior military officials from both countries discussed increasing joint exercises, strengthening training programs, and improving coordination between their armed forces.
The defense dialogue placed particular emphasis on capacity building, professional military education, and sharing operational expertise. India aims to translate its defense partnerships into practical cooperation, ensuring that collaboration goes beyond formal agreements and delivers tangible outcomes on the ground.
Cambodia has expressed appreciation for the training standards and expertise offered by the Indian armed forces and has shown interest in sending more personnel to India for specialized training programs. This growing engagement reflects mutual trust and a shared vision for strengthening security cooperation in the region.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to building a long-term strategic partnership that contributes to regional peace, stability, and security. India’s engagement with Cambodia is also aligned with its broader Act East policy and its focus on strengthening ties with ASEAN countries.
Over the years, India and Cambodia have developed a strong and friendly relationship, with cooperation expanding into areas such as infrastructure development, human resource training, and social sector projects.
