Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pleasure after meeting Israel’s President Isaac Herzog on Thursday, highlighting the wide-ranging discussions on strengthening India-Israel relations. The two leaders planted a tree in the Presidential Gardens as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, symbolising environmental commitment and shared values. PM Modi also extended a formal invitation to President Herzog to visit India soon.
Sharing his reflections on social media platform X, PM Modi said, “It was a delight to meet President Herzog and explore diverse facets of India-Israel friendship. There is immense potential in futuristic sectors such as technology, innovation, and start-ups. I am grateful to President Herzog for supporting the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.” He described the discussions as “fruitful and wide-ranging,” reinforcing the long-standing warmth and collaboration between the two nations.
President Herzog, in a video posted on X, emphasised the strong bond between the people of Israel and India. In the interaction, PM Modi recited “Am Yisrael Chai” (“The People of Israel Live”), while Herzog responded with “Jai Hind,” reflecting mutual respect and friendship. Their talks focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in education, tech innovation, start-ups, and digital connectivity.
An official from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed that both leaders explored avenues for deeper engagement in innovation, technology, and start-up ecosystems. The MEA also highlighted Modi’s gratitude to Herzog for consistently supporting the special India-Israel partnership.
Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi visited the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Centre, accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yad Vashem Chairman Dani Dayan. He paid tribute to the victims, toured the Book of Names listing 4.8 million Jewish victims, and participated in a memorial ceremony, leaving a note in the Yad Vashem guest book.
Currently on a two-day state visit, PM Modi received a grand welcome in Tel Aviv and made history by addressing a Special Plenary of the Knesset, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to speak at Israel’s parliament. The visit reinforces strategic ties, mutual respect, and expanding cooperation in technology, innovation, and education.
