Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley on securing an unprecedented third consecutive electoral victory, describing it as a remarkable democratic achievement. In his message shared publicly, Modi emphasized the value India places on its long-standing friendship with Barbados and reiterated his commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two nations across multiple sectors.
Mottley’s Barbados Labour Party delivered a commanding performance in the general elections, winning all thirty seats in the House of Assembly for the third straight time. The decisive thirty-zero outcome reinforced her leadership and reflected strong voter confidence in her administration. Following the landslide win, Mottley announced a national bank holiday and planned a thanksgiving and celebration rally at the National Botanical Gardens. She framed the celebration as a collective moment of pride and unity for the country.
Modi recalled meeting Mottley in November two thousand twenty-four during the India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana. During their discussions, both leaders reviewed collaboration in critical areas such as healthcare, pharmaceutical supply chains, climate resilience, cultural engagement, and people-to-people exchanges. Their talks reflected a shared desire to expand cooperation and build a future-focused partnership.
India and Barbados enjoy cordial diplomatic relations built on shared Commonwealth ties, the English language, and a mutual passion for cricket. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, bilateral engagement continues to deepen through regular consultations and cooperation in global platforms.
The two countries actively coordinate in international forums including the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Barbados has also expressed its support for India’s aspiration to secure permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council, highlighting alignment on key global governance issues.
Modi’s congratulatory message signals continuity in India’s engagement with Caribbean partners and underscores New Delhi’s intention to further expand political, economic, and cultural collaboration with Bridgetown in the years ahead.
