India’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Nagma Mallick, on Friday called on Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru in Tokyo, holding discussions on further advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, the Indian Embassy in Japan said the discussions focused on strengthening India-Japan ties as a follow-up to the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi in Johannesburg.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi met on November 23 on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, where they discussed ways to add momentum to bilateral cooperation in areas such as innovation, defence, talent mobility and trade. PM Modi later described the India-Japan partnership as vital for global stability and sustainable development.
Ambassador-designate Mallick has been actively engaging with senior Japanese leaders since assuming her role. On December 22, she met Japan’s State Minister for Disaster Management Akama Jiro to discuss cooperation in disaster risk reduction and disaster resilience.
Earlier, on December 18, Mallick called on Japan’s Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy Kiuchi Minoru to review various aspects of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between India and Japan.
She also met Yasutoshi Nishimura, Member of Japan’s House of Representatives and Chairman of the Japan-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, to discuss issues of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen parliamentary and people-to-people ties.
On December 15, the Indian diplomat met the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Fukushiro Nukaga, continuing high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.
India and Japan share a Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with defence, security, technology, disaster management and economic cooperation forming key pillars of their bilateral relationship.
