New Delhi witnessed a wave of positive reactions from Indian political leaders following the telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump. The discussion, which covered bilateral relations, regional and international developments, was widely viewed as a constructive step toward strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
BJP MP Shashank Mani Tripathi highlighted the importance of resolving misunderstandings arising from tariffs and other trade issues. “Both nations are friends. A successful trade deal will benefit everyone, boost our economy, and help contain inflation. It is a very positive sign,” he remarked. Similarly, BJP MP Rajkumar Chahar emphasized that all foreign policy decisions, including discussions with the U.S., are made with India’s 1.4 billion citizens in mind, underscoring PM Modi’s focus on the country’s best interests.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi called the conversation “encouraging,” pointing out that India and the U.S., as major democracies, must finalize their trade agreement. While tariffs imposed by the U.S. remain a concern, Chaturvedi expressed hope that ongoing dialogue would lead to timely implementation of the pending trade deal. TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu added that mutual cooperation should prioritize national interests and equal terms. Highlighting India’s 8.2 percent economic growth, he noted that U.S. industries benefit from India’s service sector while India gains access to U.S. markets, creating a mutually beneficial dynamic.
During the call, PM Modi and President Trump underlined the need to sustain momentum in enhancing bilateral trade. Modi described the conversation on X as “warm and engaging,” noting that they reviewed progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and affirmed steady strengthening of cooperation across multiple sectors.
The discussion also focused on expanding collaboration in critical technologies, energy, defence, and security, along with other priority areas central to the implementation of the India-US COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) initiative. Both leaders exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments, agreeing to work closely to tackle shared challenges and advance common interests.
Overall, the call reinforced India and the U.S.’s commitment to deepening strategic, economic, and technological partnerships while maintaining a framework that benefits both nations on equal terms.
