Yami Gautam Dhar has been honoured with the Best Actress award at the 72nd National Film Awards for her performance in Article 370, marking a significant milestone in her acting career. The actress attended the National Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, alongside her husband, filmmaker Aditya Dhar.
Speaking about the honour, Yami described the National Award as one of the highest forms of recognition an artiste can receive in India. Despite years of experience in the industry, she said the achievement brought back the excitement and emotion of a newcomer experiencing a major career moment.
Yami credited Article 370 with giving her an opportunity to explore the kind of role she had wanted to take on for a long time. She said years of work can eventually come together in a single moment, and for her, that moment was represented by the film and its recognition at the National Awards.
Article 370 focuses on the events surrounding the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution and its aftermath. The film has also been named the winner of the Best Feature Film award at the 72nd National Film Awards.
The awards recognise achievements in Indian cinema from 2024, with President Droupadi Murmu presenting the honours. The ceremony has brought recognition to several prominent performances and films across the Indian film industry.
Malayalam cinema veteran Mammootty has been honoured with the Best Actor award for Bramayugam, sharing the recognition with Kartik Aaryan, who was recognised for his performance in Chandu Champion. Rajkumar Periasamy received the Best Direction award for Amaran, while Randeep Hooda was recognised as Best Debut Director for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
Kalki 2898 AD also received the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, adding to the list of major honours announced at the ceremony.
