JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has said that India’s economy could nearly triple in size over the next decade, while highlighting the bank’s plans to significantly expand its operations and business coverage in the country.
Dimon said JPMorgan expects to increase its research coverage of Indian companies, with plans to cover around 2,000 companies. The bank currently tracks nearly 200 Indian companies through its research operations.
JPMorgan has also expanded its workforce in India considerably since Dimon first visited the country in 2005. The bank now employs around 60,000 professionals in India across areas including technology and investment banking.
Dimon also called on India and the United States to complete a trade agreement, emphasizing the importance of consistent rules for trade and investment between the two countries.
He also highlighted several challenges facing the global economy, including persistent inflation, high government borrowing, geopolitical tensions and growing demand for capital. According to Dimon, interest rates and bond yields could remain elevated for an extended period.
Dimon further noted that increased spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure and other areas could drive global demand for capital. He said investment across the hyperscaler ecosystem could reach about $1 trillion next year, compared with roughly $700 billion this year.
JPMorgan’s expansion plans and Dimon’s comments underline the growing focus on India’s economy and its role in the bank’s long-term global strategy.
