The US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, recently visited Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi with his three colleagues and had a wonderful time enjoying regional food.
He mentioned in a tweet, “From the bustling streets of LA to the colorful lanes of Delhi, my love of great food continues. I’m at Maharashtra Bhawan, eager to explore the fascinating flavors of India. Join me on this journey as I sample the essence of India, one state at a time. Where should I go next?”
He enthusiastically appreciated each taste of the well-known vada pav, kokum, sol kadhi, puran poli, and aam ras. As shared in the video, he began his meal with Kokum sherbet, followed by Vada Pav, which he called a “Mumbai slider”. Then he had some sabudana (sago) khichdi. He had Bharli Vangi (a stuffed brinjal dish) with Bhakri and Saoji Mutton Curry for the main course.
After having Aamras, he said, “It is like being able to have dessert in the middle of your meal.”
He shared his culinary exploration of these several Maharashtrian foods and came to the conclusion, “That meal was incredible. I think my favorite was saoji mutton. It was the most amazing dish. Like I was told, it’s a hidden recipe, so you have to ask somebody to know how to make it. I can’t wait to be in Maharashtra and Gujarat.”
