US President Donald Trump recently revealed that he had a productive and friendly conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on rising tensions in West Asia. Speaking to reporters, Trump described the interaction as positive and referred to Modi as a close friend, adding that the discussion reflected their strong personal and diplomatic rapport.
The call, which lasted close to forty minutes, took place earlier this week as concerns escalated in West Asia following the breakdown of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran. The ongoing uncertainty in the region has drawn global attention, prompting leaders from major nations to engage in dialogue and assess the evolving situation.
After the conversation, Narendra Modi shared details of the exchange on X, noting that both leaders reviewed progress made in India US relations across multiple sectors. He reaffirmed that both countries remain committed to advancing their Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, highlighting cooperation in trade, security, and international affairs. Modi also emphasized that regional stability was a key focus during the discussion.
A major point of concern addressed during the call was the situation in West Asia, particularly the need to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure. This strategic waterway plays a critical role in global energy supply, and any disruption could have wide ranging economic implications. Both leaders stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the region to avoid further escalation.
According to US envoy Sergio Gor, Trump also expressed warmth during the conversation, telling Modi that he is widely appreciated. The remark underscored the strong personal connection between the two leaders, which has often been seen as a factor contributing to closer ties between their countries.
This interaction marked the third conversation between Trump and Modi this year. It was also the second discussion since tensions intensified following military developments involving the United States and Israel earlier this year. Previous calls between the two leaders focused on trade negotiations and regional developments, indicating consistent engagement on key global issues.
