US Congressman Tom Suozzi has been appointed as the Democratic Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, taking on a prominent role in shaping legislative engagement between the United States and India. The announcement was made by Caucus Chairman Ro Khanna, who highlighted Suozzi’s consistent involvement with Indian American communities and his efforts to strengthen bilateral ties over the years.
Suozzi has been a long-standing member of the caucus and has actively participated in initiatives aimed at deepening cooperation between Washington and New Delhi. His elevation to the leadership position reflects his continued commitment to fostering stronger political, economic, and cultural connections between the two democracies.
As part of his previous engagements, Suozzi has traveled to India and has engaged in outreach efforts involving Indian American communities in his constituency. Last year, he made history by becoming the first US Member of Congress to visit the Kartarpur Corridor, a symbolic site of cross-border religious and cultural significance. His district, which includes parts of Long Island and Queens, is home to a large and influential Indian American population.
Following his appointment, Suozzi expressed gratitude for the new responsibility, stating that he feels honored to serve in a leadership role within the caucus. He emphasized his strong ties to the Indian American community in his district and acknowledged the importance of the relationships he has built over many years with community members and leaders.
He added that he looks forward to continuing efforts that strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the United States and India. The appointment is seen as part of ongoing bipartisan efforts in the US Congress to expand engagement with India across areas such as trade, security, innovation, and diaspora relations.
