US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has highlighted the growing cooperation between the United States and India in space exploration after meeting Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to travel to the International Space Station.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Gor praised Shukla’s professional journey, describing it as a strong example of the expanding partnership between the two nations in the space sector. Shukla’s path has included training with NASA and serving as the pilot of Axiom Space’s Ax-4 mission, demonstrating the increasing opportunities for collaboration between Indian and American space organizations.
Gor said Shukla’s achievements represent the potential of international cooperation in advancing space exploration and technology. His journey from astronaut training to participating in a mission connected with the International Space Station has become a significant milestone for India’s growing role in global human spaceflight.
The ambassador also continued his engagement with leaders in Karnataka, where he met Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. During their discussions, Gor emphasized that cooperation between India and the United States is gaining momentum across several important sectors in the state, including space technology, artificial intelligence and trade.
He highlighted initiatives such as Pax Silica and TRUST, saying these efforts are intended to create greater opportunities for industries and businesses in both countries. Karnataka’s position as a major technology and innovation center is expected to play an increasingly important role in strengthening commercial and technological ties between the two nations.
Beyond space and technology, Gor recently pointed to another significant development in the US-India relationship involving defense manufacturing. He described the planned collaboration between Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Tata Advanced Systems Limited as an important advancement for the bilateral defense partnership.
The companies have entered into an agreement related to the future co-production of the Javelin All Up Round in India. According to the announcement, Tata Advanced Systems was selected as the primary Indian partner for future domestic production efforts after an assessment of potential companies based on their capabilities and expertise.
Gor said the partnership could create additional opportunities for American companies while supporting India’s manufacturing sector and strengthening broader industrial cooperation. Together, developments in space exploration, advanced technology, trade and defense manufacturing reflect the expanding scope of the US-India partnership.
