Actor and acting coach Saurabh Sachdeva has opened up about his experience working on The Peasant, the upcoming action thriller directed by Dev Patel. The film has already generated significant interest among movie enthusiasts, particularly because it represents Patel’s next directorial project following the success of Monkey Man. Set in 14th-century India, the film is expected to bring a unique blend of historical storytelling and intense action to international audiences.
Speaking about the project, Sachdeva explained that being part of The Peasant felt different from a conventional film production. While it carried the usual demands of a professional movie set, he sensed that the project represented something larger. According to him, the decision by A24 to produce and shoot its first film in India reflects a broader shift in how the global entertainment industry views the country and its stories.
Sachdeva noted that the experience felt significant because it symbolized increasing international recognition of India’s creative talent and storytelling traditions. He described the project as part of a larger cultural moment where Indian narratives are receiving greater attention and appreciation on the global stage.
The actor also shared his observations of Dev Patel’s working style as both a filmmaker and performer. He praised Patel’s ability to manage multiple responsibilities without losing focus, describing his approach as clear, disciplined, and purposeful. Sachdeva highlighted Patel’s strong understanding of storytelling and his commitment to capturing the emotional authenticity of every scene.
What impressed him most, he said, was Patel’s calm demeanor despite the pressures of directing, acting, and overseeing a large-scale production. According to Sachdeva, Patel maintained a steady sense of purpose throughout the process, allowing the creative vision of the project to remain consistent and focused.
Beyond discussing the film itself, Sachdeva reflected on the evolving perception of Indian storytelling worldwide. He believes that international audiences and producers are increasingly recognizing the depth, originality, and emotional richness found in Indian narratives. Rather than viewing India merely as an exotic backdrop or filming destination, the global industry is beginning to appreciate the country’s unique storytelling traditions and cultural perspectives.
He also emphasized the importance of preserving authenticity in storytelling. In his view, creators should avoid diluting their cultural identity in pursuit of broader appeal. Instead, he argued that the most powerful stories emerge from genuine experiences and specific cultural contexts. As global audiences seek fresh and meaningful narratives, Sachdeva believes that authentic Indian stories have the potential to resonate universally while remaining true to their roots.
The Peasant stars Dev Patel alongside Christian Friedel, Sebastian Bull, Anasuya Sengupta, and several other performers. The story follows a shepherd whose life is transformed after a brutal attack on his community, setting him on a path driven by survival and revenge.
