Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna and Republican Representative Rich McCormick will co-chair the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans in the US House of Representatives, according to an official release.
Representatives Andy Barr and Marc Veasey will continue as vice co-chairs, while Congressman Brad Sherman, a former chair, will now serve as chair emeritus.
Khanna emphasized the importance of US-India ties for economic and national security. He emphasized, “A strong partnership with India is essential for our economy and national security. I look forward to collaborating with Rep. McCormick to further strengthen this relationship,” while also recognizing the contributions of Barr and Veasey.
The bipartisan caucus, dedicated to advancing US-India relations, has reached a record 145 members in the 118th Congress, with 35 new lawmakers joining under the leadership of Khanna and former co-chair Michael Waltz. The caucus focuses on trade, defense, and engagement with the Indian American community.
McCormick, who represents Georgia’s 7th Congressional District, expressed his commitment to reinforcing ties between the two nations. “I am privileged to serve many hardworking Indian Americans in my district. Their contributions enrich our community and strengthen US-India bonds,” he said.
Congressman Andy Barr highlighted the partnership’s foundation in shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and security interests. “Strengthening this relationship is vital for trade, technology, and defense,” he added.
Marc Veasey, representing Texas’ 33rd Congressional District, echoed these sentiments. “Texas is home to a vibrant Indian American community. I am committed to fostering deeper partnerships that benefit both nations,” he stated.
With bipartisan leadership and growing participation, the India Caucus aims to drive stronger economic, strategic, and community ties between the United States and India.
