Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has called for stronger cooperation between India and the United States to address the growing strategic challenges posed by China. He emphasized that both democracies must work together in critical areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, clean energy, and national security to remain competitive in the global landscape.
Speaking about the evolving geopolitical environment, Krishnamoorthi described China’s rise as one of the most significant challenges facing both countries. He said India and the US need to take greater steps to respond effectively and maximize their potential as leading democracies.
According to Krishnamoorthi, future technologies will play a crucial role in determining global leadership. He identified areas including fusion energy, solar power, quantum innovation, artificial intelligence, and security cooperation as important sectors where India and the United States can build deeper partnerships.
The Congressman also stressed the importance of strengthening democratic values within both nations. He said reducing social divisions and addressing discrimination are essential for ensuring that both countries continue to progress and successfully meet global challenges.
Discussing concerns related to Chinese influence operations in the United States, Krishnamoorthi said there was no evidence that Beijing had interfered with vote counting or election results. However, he noted that foreign influence efforts remain a concern, particularly through digital platforms, social media campaigns, and attempts to influence public opinion at local levels.
Krishnamoorthi also highlighted the connection between immigration policies and America’s ability to compete globally. He raised concerns about the uncertainty faced by H-1B visa holders, many of whom are Indian professionals contributing to the US economy, and advocated for faster processing of employment-based green cards.
He said millions of skilled immigrants who have been waiting for permanent residency for years should receive greater support, particularly those who have spent decades contributing to American society. According to him, improving immigration pathways would encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation, and technological development.
While acknowledging the need for reforms, Krishnamoorthi emphasized that immigration changes should receive bipartisan support. He said talented professionals who come to the United States have the ability to create companies, develop advanced technologies, and strengthen the country’s economic future.
As a prominent voice in Congress on technology policy and US-China strategic competition, Krishnamoorthi continues to advocate for stronger international partnerships and policies aimed at maintaining America’s leadership in innovation and security.
