Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for an ambitious diplomatic mission, traveling to five countries across two continents from July 2 to 9, concluding with the BRICS Leaders’ Summit in Brazil. This marks his longest overseas tour in over a decade, reflecting India’s evolving global strategy.
Modi’s first stop will be Ghana from July 2 to 3, marking the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit to the West African country in 30 years. Ghana’s rapidly growing economy shares strong commercial ties with India, with gold making up the bulk of its exports. PM Modi is expected to engage with President John Mahama to explore greater cooperation in sectors like trade, defense, energy, and development.
From July 3 to 4, the PM will visit Trinidad and Tobago, home to one of the Caribbean’s largest Indian diaspora populations. The visit coincides with 180 years of Indian migration to the island. Talks with leaders of Indian origin, including Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and President Christine Carla Kangaloo, aim to boost economic ties—trade between the two nations reached $341.61 million in FY 2024–25.
The next leg, July 4 to 5, takes Modi to Argentina for the first such bilateral visit by an Indian PM in 57 years. Modi and President Javier Milei are expected to strengthen collaborations in agriculture, energy, mining, and especially lithium—vital for India’s clean energy ambitions. India is a key trade partner for Argentina, particularly for edible oil imports.
From July 5 to 8, Brazil will host Modi for the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The summit will address global governance, AI, climate issues, and multilateralism. A State Visit follows, where PM Modi will hold strategic talks in Brasilia with President Lula da Silva on deepening bilateral ties across key sectors.
Finally, on July 9, Modi visits Namibia, meeting President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressing Parliament. The visit reflects rising trade—now close to $600 million—and cooperation, especially in wildlife conservation. Modi previously led the historic cheetah translocation from Namibia to India in 2022.
