In a virtual speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the World Health Assembly’s 75th anniversary as a global health organization during its 76th session in Geneva.
In his address, Modi urged a collaborative effort to create robust global systems and increase global health equity while drawing attention to the holes in the global health infrastructure that were felt sharply during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The Prime Minister stated that India sent around 300 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to over 100 nations, including several from the Global South, in reference to India’s support for the battle against Corona. In particular, for underdeveloped nations, he pledged to help the organization enable and provide equitable access to health resources.
The Prime Minister also discussed the advantages of conventional Indian medical practices such as yoga, ayurveda, and meditation. He also expressed his delight at the establishment of WHO’s first Global Center for Traditional Medicine in India, which would support conventional medical practices.
The prime minister also referred to Ayushman Bharat, the largest health insurance program of its sort in the world, and said that an “approach that works with the scale of India’s diversity can also become a framework for other nations.”
For the problems that lie ahead in the future, the work of international organizations like the WHO will be even more crucial, Modi said, adding that India will be dedicated to creating a healthy world.
