Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Australia in July as part of a broader regional tour that will also include Indonesia and New Zealand. The visit is anticipated to further strengthen India’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to reports, Modi is likely to travel to Indonesia before visiting New Zealand on July 7 and 8, followed by a two-day visit to Australia on July 9 and 10. The visit comes amid growing strategic, economic, and cultural ties between New Delhi and Canberra.
During his stay, Modi is expected to hold official engagements in Sydney, hosted by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The discussions are likely to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation across sectors, including trade, technology, and regional security.
A major highlight of the visit is expected to be a large-scale interaction with the Indian diaspora in Melbourne. Authorities from both countries have reportedly shortlisted venues with capacities ranging from 14,000 to over 35,000 attendees, reflecting the significance of the community engagement.
The visit is also generating interest among leading business and community organisations, including the Australia India Business Council and the Australia-India CEO Forum, both keen to host high-profile events involving the Prime Minister.
Modi last visited Sydney in 2023 for the Quad Leaders’ Summit, where he held bilateral talks with Albanese and engaged with business leaders and the Indian diaspora. That visit resulted in key outcomes, including agreements on migration and mobility, green hydrogen cooperation, and the establishment of new consulates.
The upcoming visit is expected to build on these developments, reinforcing India-Australia ties and advancing cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, while strengthening people-to-people connections through diaspora outreach.
