Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ahead of the commencement of the 2025-26 Budget Session on Friday, declared it the first time since 2014 that India’s Parliament would witness no foreign interference in its affairs. Addressing the media before heading to Parliament, PM Modi referred to it as a significant shift, stating that no foreign forces had attempted to influence India’s domestic policies, especially before previous budget sessions.
PM Modi outlined the government’s vision for its third term, focusing on “all-round development” through the guiding principles of innovation, inclusion, and investment. He highlighted these elements as key drivers of the nation’s economic growth. The Prime Minister emphasized that the country is moving forward with the Mission MODE initiative, which aims to ensure development across geographical, social, and economic dimensions.
The Prime Minister reiterated his mantra of “Reform, Perform, and Transform,” stressing that both central and state governments must focus on reform to achieve rapid development, with public participation acting as a transformative force.
Modi also pointed out that the current Budget Session would involve discussions on several historic bills that would contribute to the nation’s strengthening, particularly in areas such as women’s empowerment, ensuring equal rights and respect for all women, and addressing caste and creed-based discrimination.
PM Modi expressed optimism about the future, particularly for India’s youth, who he believes will be the greatest beneficiaries of a “Viksit Bharat” by the time they turn 50. He called this Budget Session a golden opportunity for MPs, especially the younger generation, to contribute to the vision of a developed India.
The session is expected to witness the tabling of important bills, including the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, the Railways (Amendment) Bill, and the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, among others. The President will address the joint sitting of both Houses, followed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the Economic Survey before the Union Budget is tabled. The session is scheduled to run until February 13, with a recess before resuming on March 10.
