Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in France for a two-day visit, where he was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace. During a formal dinner, PM Modi met US Vice President JD Vance and congratulated him on his electoral victory. This marked PM Modi’s first meeting with JD Vance under the new Trump administration.
In a video shared by Macron, PM Modi can be seen shaking Vance’s hand and saying, “Congratulations. Great, great victory.” Macron welcomed both leaders, stating, “Welcome to Paris, my friend @NarendraModi! Nice to meet you dear @VP Vance! Let’s get to work!”
PM Modi and President Macron are set to co-chair the AI Action Summit in Paris, which will bring together global leaders and tech industry executives to explore advancements in artificial intelligence for the public good.
Additionally, Modi and Macron will launch India’s first consulate in Marseille, a significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties. They will also visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) facility, where India collaborates with France and other nations on nuclear energy solutions.
Following his engagements in France, PM Modi will visit the United States on February 12-13 at the invitation of President Donald Trump. This will be Modi’s first meeting with Trump after his return to office for a second term. Notably, Modi will be the fourth global leader to visit the US following Trump’s inauguration.
India’s engagement with the US administration has been active, with Modi and Trump having spoken twice since November 2024. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also represented Modi at Trump’s inauguration earlier this year.
