Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought global recognition to Yoga, said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, as he launched a month-long Yoga movement titled ‘Yogandhra 2025’.
Calling Yoga India’s gift to the world, Naidu emphasised its universal relevance. “Yoga is not confined to a few people or regions. It is being practiced across countries and has become a global wellness movement,” he said.
The ‘Yogandhra 2025’ campaign will culminate on June 21 with the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations in Visakhapatnam, which will see the participation of Prime Minister Modi.
Launching the official Yogandhra website, Naidu urged every citizen to make Yoga a daily habit, stressing its role in managing stress and improving well-being. “Yoga is not just for photos or events; it’s a transformative lifestyle,” he remarked.
The campaign aims to reach two crore participants, with a goal to issue certificates to 10 lakh individuals who complete the programme. The state has also mandated daily one-hour Yoga sessions in schools across Andhra Pradesh.
A major highlight will be the International Yoga Day event in Visakhapatnam, where the state government is planning to set a new Guinness World Record by hosting 2.5 lakh participants from RK Beach to Bheemunipatnam Beach. In 2023, Surat set the current record with 1.53 lakh participants.
Officials have already identified 68 locations with a total capacity of 2,58,948 participants. Naidu has suggested expanding the initiative further by involving up to 5 lakh people, conducting sessions from RK Beach to Srikakulam.
The preparations reflect Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to make Yoga a core part of public health and cultural identity.
