Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has been honoured with a special recognition award in London for his significant role in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between India and the United Kingdom. The award was presented at the Annual UK-India Awards 2026, where global leaders, policymakers, and business representatives gathered to celebrate contributions toward enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Speaking at the event attended by over 300 delegates, Goyal highlighted that the India-UK partnership is entering a promising phase with vast untapped potential. He emphasized that the strongest phase of collaboration between the two nations is still ahead, driven by expanding opportunities in trade, technology, innovation, education, and strategic industries. His remarks reflected growing optimism about the future direction of the bilateral relationship.
The minister noted that the upcoming implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement is expected to further deepen economic engagement between the two countries. Set to take effect from July 15, the agreement is seen as a key milestone that will enhance market access, encourage investment flows, and strengthen supply chain cooperation across multiple sectors.
Goyal expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that the award represents the collective efforts of policymakers, businesses, academic institutions, cultural groups, and the Indian diaspora who have contributed to building stronger India-UK ties. He emphasized that collaboration across these diverse groups has played a crucial role in advancing the partnership.
He further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s strong economic growth trajectory is creating new opportunities for global partnerships. According to him, India’s expanding economic footprint is enabling deeper engagement with countries like the United Kingdom across emerging and high-growth sectors.
The minister also extended congratulations to other award recipients, acknowledging their contributions to strengthening bilateral relations. He underlined that increasing economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges are laying the foundation for a new era in India-UK relations.
