Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday commemorated the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, describing it as a defining example of India’s uncompromising stand against terrorism and its commitment to national security. Paying tribute to the armed forces, the Prime Minister applauded their courage, discipline, and strategic execution during the military operation launched after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in 2025.
In a message shared on X, Modi said the Indian armed forces demonstrated exceptional bravery and precision while responding to the attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. He noted that the operation sent a clear message to forces attempting to threaten India’s sovereignty and security. According to the Prime Minister, Operation Sindoor reflected India’s determination to eliminate terrorism and dismantle the networks supporting extremist activities.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the operational excellence displayed by the Army, Navy, and Air Force during the mission. He stated that the operation showcased strong coordination among the armed forces and underlined the growing strength achieved through India’s push for self-reliance in the defense sector. Modi also changed his display picture on X to commemorate the anniversary and honor the sacrifices and achievements of the security forces.
Launched on May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor was initiated in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The mission was designed as a targeted strike operation aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and inside Pakistan. Supported by intelligence gathered from multiple agencies, Indian forces identified and targeted nine major terror camps through carefully planned operations intended to minimize civilian casualties.
Following the operation, Pakistan reportedly attempted retaliatory drone and UCAV attacks on Indian military facilities and logistical centers. However, India’s advanced air defense systems successfully intercepted and neutralized the threats. Defense officials credited the Integrated Command and Control Strategy for enabling real-time monitoring and effective coordination across various military domains.
The Indian Air Force played a significant role by conducting precision strikes on strategic locations, while its layered air defense systems protected Indian airspace from incoming aerial threats. Simultaneously, the Indian Army strengthened border defenses and countered infiltration attempts through coordinated action along sensitive sectors.
The Indian Navy also emerged as a critical force during the operation by maintaining maritime dominance and ensuring surveillance across key sea routes. Its deployment effectively restricted hostile activity along the western seaboard and reinforced India’s strategic readiness.
Additionally, the Border Security Force successfully prevented a major infiltration attempt in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district during the heightened tensions. Officials stated that the mission demonstrated the preparedness, vigilance, and integrated strength of India’s security apparatus, making Operation Sindoor both a tactical and strategic success for the country.
