At 82, Joe Biden is battling aggressive prostate cancer. Leaders worldwide, including PM Modi and Trump, have extended their wishes for his recovery. The diagnosis followed a medical consultation after he reported urinary concerns on Friday.
The official statement revealed that the cancer is of a high-grade type, with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5)—a clinical indicator of severity—and has already spread to his bones. Despite the seriousness of the condition, doctors have noted that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, meaning it can still be effectively treated using hormone-based therapies.
In the wake of the announcement, leaders worldwide conveyed their concern and extended support. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt wishes on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter. “I am deeply concerned to hear about @JoeBiden’s health,” wrote Modi. “Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. Our prayers are with Dr. Jill Biden and the entire family.”
Messages of support have also come from within the United States, including from Donald Trump, Biden’s former political rival. Posting on his platform Truth Social, Trump offered heartfelt words: “Melania and I are saddened by Joe’s diagnosis. Our heartfelt wishes go out to Jill and the Biden family for a swift and full recovery.”
Kamala Harris, who served as Vice President during Biden’s presidency, also offered words of encouragement. “Joe is a fighter,” she said. “He has always shown resilience and strength, and I’m confident he’ll approach this challenge with the same spirit that has defined his leadership.”
Prostate cancer is among the most frequently diagnosed cancers in men, particularly as they age. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that about 13 in every 100 men in the country will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.
Biden’s diagnosis has prompted widespread empathy and concern from across the political spectrum. While the illness is serious, the hormone sensitivity of the cancer provides a pathway for effective treatment. The former President is expected to begin a treatment plan under close medical supervision. The public, along with national and international leaders, continue to wish him strength and recovery as he faces this difficult health battle.
