US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by his wife Jeanette Rubio, visited two of India’s most famous heritage sites on Monday — the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Amber Fort in Jaipur. The visit was part of his ongoing four-day diplomatic trip to India focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also joined the delegation during the visit. Sharing moments from the Agra tour, he praised the Taj Mahal as a remarkable example of India’s rich cultural history and architectural excellence. The monument continues to attract global attention for its artistic beauty and historical significance.
Rubio’s visit comes months after US Vice President J.D. Vance toured India with his family and also visited the Taj Mahal during an official engagement.
Following the Agra stop, Rubio travelled to Jaipur for the next phase of his India visit. This marked his first official trip to Rajasthan’s capital. Authorities at the Amber Fort organised a grand traditional welcome ceremony at Jaleb Chowk, where folk performers and cultural groups showcased Rajasthan’s vibrant traditions and heritage through music and dance performances.
Due to the importance of the visit, security arrangements across Jaipur were significantly strengthened. Local administration officials, police personnel, and security agencies remained on high alert throughout the day. Officers reviewed travel routes, accommodation facilities, and event venues linked to the American delegation’s schedule.
Officials also implemented detailed traffic and crowd management plans to ensure smooth movement during Rubio’s stay in the city. Meanwhile, civic agencies accelerated cleaning drives, lighting arrangements, and beautification projects around major tourist locations, particularly near the Amber Fort complex.
Rubio’s India visit, scheduled from May 23 to May 26, includes stops in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi. The diplomatic tour is aimed at expanding cooperation between India and the United States in areas including trade, defense, energy, and strategic partnerships.
