External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has reached New York to represent India at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, as world leaders and senior officials gather for the annual high-level meetings. His visit places India’s diplomatic engagement at the center of discussions taking place during the General Assembly’s High-Level Week.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar will head the country’s delegation during the high-level segment of the 81st UN General Assembly. He is scheduled to deliver India’s address at the high-level session on September 26, outlining the country’s perspectives on key international issues and its engagement with the global community.
Beyond his scheduled UNGA address, Jaishankar is expected to participate in a series of bilateral and plurilateral meetings during his stay in New York. These engagements are set to provide opportunities for discussions with international counterparts and representatives on matters of mutual interest and broader global cooperation.
The minister’s journey to the United States also included a stop in Zurich, Switzerland. During his visit there, Jaishankar was received by Mridul Kumar, India’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The stop provided an opportunity for the minister to receive an update on India’s diplomatic engagement with Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The Embassy of India in Switzerland and Liechtenstein said Kumar briefed Jaishankar on recent developments involving the three countries. The briefing included updates related to high-level visits and ongoing diplomatic interactions between India, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Jaishankar’s participation in the UN General Assembly comes as India continues to engage with countries and international institutions on a range of global and bilateral priorities. His schedule in New York combines India’s participation in the multilateral forum with meetings aimed at strengthening diplomatic relationships.
