India and Kenya have reviewed the implementation of the USD 15 million Line of Credit (LoC) extended by the Government of India to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Kenya, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.
Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Adarsh Swaika met with Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) Director General Norah Ratemo and senior officials in Nairobi to assess the progress of the concessional credit facility. The discussions focused on accelerating project implementation and ensuring that the funding reaches eligible Kenyan businesses seeking to procure machinery and equipment from India.
The Line of Credit has already supported 16 development projects, while six additional projects are currently under implementation. During the meeting, the Indian side emphasized the importance of timely execution to maximize the benefits of the initiative for Kenyan SMEs and strengthen industrial collaboration between the two countries.
The review reflects India’s continued commitment to supporting Kenya’s economic development through capacity building, technology transfer, and concessional financing aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable growth.
The meeting follows recent engagements between India and Kenya to expand cooperation beyond trade and investment. Earlier, High Commissioner Swaika met Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry to discuss joint initiatives in climate action, forestry, and environmental conservation.
Both countries explored synergies between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative and Kenyan President William Ruto’s 15 Billion Trees Campaign, while also identifying opportunities for collaboration between forestry and environmental institutions.
India and Kenya continue to strengthen their long-standing partnership across economic development, climate action, sustainable growth, and South-South cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing global challenges while expanding bilateral ties.
